Senior track star Kalon Barnes continues to receive accolades after earning a spot on the first team of the All-USA Boys Track & Field Sprinters by USA Today released on Tuesday, July 11.

After winning two gold medals in the Texas UIL State Track & Field Championships in the 100- and 200-meter sprints, including a state record in the 100 in a time of 10.22, the lights began to shine bright on the incoming Silsbee senior.

Barnes is listed on the All-USA First Team along with three other national track stars including sophomore Tyrese Cooper (Miami Gardens, Florida), junior Jamal Walton (Miramar, Florida), and junior Anthony Schwartz (Plantation, Florida).

Barnes was cordially invited to two National races, a first for the recent Baylor commit as a nationally ranked speedy wide receiver in football.

On May 28, Barnes competed in the High School Boys 200-meter dash in the Nike Elite Prefontaine Classic held in Eugene, Oregon.
Barnes entered the race seeded sixth in the field and ran a personal best time of 20.54 to finish second behind Tyrese Cooper of Florida on the National stage. Cooper finished in a time of 20.51.

Barnes then traveled across the country to Somerville, Massachusetts to compete in the Adidas Boost Boston meet on June 4.
The Silsbee senior shocked the National stage finishing first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.34 to defeat the reigning World Youth U18 100-meter record-holder Anthony Schwartz of Florida.

Barnes is gearing up for the upcoming football season, and will be a key on offense for the Silsbee Tigers, who have been picked to finish second in District 10-4A-Division I.
