The long road to a state championship goes through Nacogdoches this week for the Newton Eagles, as they seek to put up another monument at Singletary Stadium.

The Eagles had to dig themselves out of an early 14-0 hole to beat Elysian Fields 30-20 last week to mark the halfway point of any team's playoff run.

Newton is still three wins away from the fourth state title in school history and then have found a way to handle the grind.

The Eagles (13-0) will face Arp (11-2) in the regional finals Friday at 7:30 pm. Arp defeated Crockett 35-32 last week and one of their defeats came to Elysian Fields during the regular season.
