A trio of Seahawks scored in double-figures to lead Lamar State College Port Arthur to a 90-66 win over Lone Star College-Kingwood on Saturday afternoon at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur.

The Seahawks move to 3-0 with the win as Petar Radojicic led the team with 14 points and six rebounds. Keion Farrington added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Akol Deng hit for 11 points and six boards.

“We spread the ball around tonight and we’re giving a lot of guys a chance to play early in the season,” head coach Lance Madison said. “We started out slow today but we got our rhythm down and settled down as the game went on.”

The Hawks fell behind early, trailing by three twice in the first five minutes of the contest. At the midway point of the first half, sophomore Chase Rutledge hit a 3-pointer to give the Seahawks a lead they would not relinquish again. Over a five-minute span, the Seahawks went on a 14-0 run to move out to a 33-17 lead. After another 9-2 run, the Hawks took a 44-21 lead into the halftime break.

The Seahawks worked well in the paint, scoring 12 points under the basket and added a defensive push that resulted in 12 points off turnovers. Showing its depth, the Seahawks bench accounted for 25 of the team’s 44 points in the half.

LSCPA dominated though the second half, extending its lead to its widest margin of 40 points at the 3:57 mark.

“Defensively we came out ok but offensively we struggled in the first half,” Madison said. “The second half was a different story. We came together and we showed some of the chemistry that we’re developing as the season goes on.”

The Seahawks return to the Carl Parker Center for the final game of this early home stand when they take on Lone Star College-Tomball at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16. The Hawks hit the road for the first time on Friday when they travel to Victoria College to play the Pirates. Tipoff for that game is 7 p.m.
