The LCM boys began their quest for a return trip to state with a convincing win at the District 22-4A Cross Country meet on Tuesday.

The Bears, led by Eli Peveto, who won his third consecutive individual title, won the meet with 34 points. Silsbee was second with 61 points and Bridge City third with 75.

Peveto won with a time of 17:16. Jackson Baeza, Rayce Piper and Trevor Turner finished in the top five for LCM.

On the girls side in 22-4A, Maddison Helm of Orangefield repeats as district champs, while the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Horns won their fourth straight district title.

In 22-5A, Rachel Morrison, after finishing in the top five the last two years, won the district title in her senior season. Morrison took first with a time of 21:22 over the three mile course.

The PNG Lady Indians, with Grace Richard, Anna Licatino and Alexus Allen finishing in the top six, won the team championship.

On the boys side, Nederland won their 13th straight team championship, led by Blake Montera, who was second, and Carlos Barbosa 4th and Carlos Rodriguez 5th.

Lumberton's Trent Stoute ended Nederland's run of individual titles by winning the 5,000 meter race in a time of 17:12.

The top ten finishers and top three teams will head to Huntsville for the regional meet in two weeks.
