A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department has identified a teen killed in an early-morning accident Sunday.

Police say Christopher Jones, 17, of Port Arthur, was driving an SUV in the 4800 block of Dryden Road just after 6 a.m. The SUV left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The police spokesperson did not know what caused Jones to drive off of the roadway.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Pct. 8 Justice of the Peace Judge Tom Gillam III,

There were no passengers in the SUV and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Officers with the Port Arthur police accident investigation team are handling the investigation.
