Filing period for Beaumont's 2023 municipal election now open

The filing deadline for the May 6 election is 5 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont mayor and two council members have become the first to officially apply to run in the May municipal election.

Beaumont city clerk, Tina Broussard, began accepting candidate applications on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

The filing deadline for the May 6 election is 5 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, according to the City of Beaumont website.

By 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning Beaumont Mayor Robin Mouton had filed to seek reelection along with incumbents, ward two councilman Mike Getz and ward four councilman Charles “Chris” Durio, Jr.

Mouton, who is the city's first black female mayor, confirmed on November, 16, 2022, that she would seek reelection following her first term in office.

Prominent businessman Roy West, Jr., who lost by a small margin to Beaumont mayor Robin Mouton in 2021, announced two days before that he would run again run for mayor in 2023.

Audwin Samuel, who currently holds the city council seat for ward three, announced his bid for reelection on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. 

He has held the seat since 1999 and previously held it from 1984 through 1993 according to the City of Beaumont website.

Taylor Neild, who currently holds city council seat for ward one, announced his bid for reelection on Wednesday January, 18, 2023.  

He was first elected in 2019 and is now hoping for a third term.

Three other Beaumont men have announced that they will be filing for election council including Michael Cooper, Terry Preston Roy and Carlton Sharp.

Longtime Beaumont resident, Roy, announced on January 10, 2023, that he would also run for an at-large seat 

Sharp, who is the pastor at Faith Christian Center Church, made his announcement on January 13, 2023, that he would be seeking the Ward Three seat currently held by Samuel.

The municipal election will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Early voting will be from April 24, 2023 through May 2, 2023, according to the city.

By late Wednesday afternoon no other candidates had yet to be listed on the city's election information website.
