An Orange County man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg following an accidental shooting Monday night.
The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Erin Drive near Vidor.
According to a news release issued by the Orange County Sheriff's Office a man, 27, told deputies that he was cleaning a .22 caliber revolver when the cylinder jammed. When he could not clear the jam, he handed the revolver to his father who tried to clear it. The news release says both men said the handgun went off while in the father's hand and the bullet struck the 27 year old man in the thigh.
Acadian Ambulance was called to the scene and the man with the gunshot wound was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The wound is not considered life-threatening.
Orange County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson said all indications are that it was an accidental shooting.
