One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries following an accident on Interstate 10 near Hamshire Road Thursday.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis, a 1985 Nissan 2-door vehicle was going westbound on I-10 at an unsafe speed and the driver lost control of the car. The vehicle hit the inside cable barrier and flipped over the barrier into the grass median. The momentum of the impact caused the vehicle to hit the cable barrier on the eastbound side of the Interstate. The vehicle came to rest partially in the eastbound traffic lane.

The driver was wearing a seat belt which prevented him from being ejected from the vehicle. Trooper Davis said the driver's injuries are listed as serious.

This crash is still under investigation.
