Port Arthur firefighters and police officers were honored Thursday night as the Port Arthur Neighborhood Action Council, or PANAC, hosted its annual banquet.

The council is a partnership between the city's neighborhood groups and the police and fire departments.

The coalition formed in 1996 and since then the group has been involved in many service projects to improve the community.

City Manager Floyd Johnson delivered the keynote address.

Also, Officer Marcelo Molfino was voted police officer of the year, the first officer ever to get that honor from both the Neighborhood Council and the police department.

Captain Troy Irvine and Fire Marshal Mark Mulliner were selected firemen of the year.
