Beaumont firefighters were called to a house fire at 890 Evergreen Ln. in the West End Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. as a strong thunderstorm was over the city.

A neighbor told 12News that the house was struck by lightning, igniting a fire on the roof. A spokesperson for Beaumont Fire Rescue later confirmed that lightning was the cause of the fire.

When firefighters arrived they found a house with flames showing from one room. Firefighters were able to make a quick attack and confine the fire to one rear bedroom of the home.

The people inside were able escape from the home without injury before firefighters arrived.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
