A man who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1994 killing and dismemberment of his own mother has been denied release from a mental health facility.
Millet Harrison Jr, 62, of Beaumont, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, has been held at Rusk State Hospital since October 1994 when a jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity.
Harrison is granted an annual hearing to decide if he should remain held at Rusk. Wednesday, 58th District Court Judge Bob Wortham ruled that Harrison will stay at Rusk for at least another year until his next hearing.
On February 1, 1994 Harrison strangled his mother, Louise Harrison, 67, and then mutilated her body.
According to 12News file stories, Harrison said he killed his mother after being told to do so by voices.
