A man from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office most wanted list was arrested in Houston Monday and escaped custody while handcuffed. His freedom only lasted for a couple hours.

Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies and Houston police were actively looking for the suspect, who ran from deputies as they were trying to book him into the jail in downtown Houston.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, deputies say the suspect was in handcuffs when he ran from the patrol car he had been transported in near the jail on Commerce and N. San Jacinto St.

HCSO says the arrestee, Johnathon Richmond was hiding in brush near a bayou when he was captured.

Earlier, officers set up a perimeter that borders Buffalo Bayou, which runs behind the jail booking and releasing center. K9 units joined in the search.

Richmond, 29, had been arrested in Harris County on a larceny warrant issued in Jefferson County, deputies say.
