A man working inside a silo at the German Pellet Company in Port Arthur died Friday after the material he was moving fell on him.
A spokesperson for the City of Port Arthur says the man was operating a skid-steer loader inside the silo when material fell on him. Risa Carpenter says emergency crews were called to the sight at about 7 a.m.
There is no word yet the company for whom the man worked, but Carpenter said the investigation is continuing.
The company is located at the Port of Port Arthur where there are five solos that hold wooden pellets. One of the silos collapsed in June after smoke begin coming out of it in April. Authorities attributed the smoke to internal combustion and the smoke eventually enveloped the surrounding community. Residents complained to the city officials of the smoke, and the city eventually filed suit against the company to comply with its ordinances.
