A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed to 12News that a child pulled from a small pond in his yard Thursday night has died.

“We are saddened to confirm the death of a toddler after he fell into a small pond in his yard,” said Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Janoise Grizzaffi.

Orange County ESD #1 received a call around 8 p.m. from the 1500 block of Terry Road near Vidor.  When deputies got to the home they found that a two-year-old had fallen into the pond.  They began CPR on the child until an Air Med helicopter arrived.  The child was flown to CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont and was later pronounced deceased.

Family members told deputies the boy had been playing with another child inside the house.  They noticed him missing and began searching for him.  They later found him in the pond.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this family during this difficult time,” says a Sheriff’s Office news release.
