The entire Spurger school district is shutting down Friday after more than 20% of the student body and multiple staff members came down with the flu.

Both the junior high/high school and the elementary school campuses will be closed Friday so that the maintenance staff can clean and disinfect the campuses and give the virus time to die according to superintendent Kendall Smith.

The district's current enrollment is at about 390 and by Thursday afternoon 89 students and 14 staff members, nine of which are teachers, were out sick Smith said.

Smith told 12News they hope to give everyone time to get well and rid the campuses of the virus.

School is set to resume Monday morning.
