Port Arthur students making up two weather days on President's Day, Saturday in March

Students in Port Arthur will be spending President's Day and an upcoming Saturday in class to make up for two of three weather days recently missed in the district.

Students and teachers in Port Arthur will be making up some of their Harvey days from last year by attending classes on an upcoming Monday holiday as well as a Saturday.

In a letter to Port Arthur Independent School District parents released on Tuesday superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie announced that classes will be held on President's Day, February 19, 2017, and on Saturday, March 3, 2017 to make up for the most recent days missed because of weather.

Students are being required to make up two of the last three weather days missed, from January 16 - 19, 2017, in the district according to the letter.

The letter noted that if 90% of students do not attend the the required make-up days then the district would be forced to use one, or more, spring break days or extend the school year.

The district will be providing bus transportation and lunch on both make-up days according to the letter.

Porterie noted in the letter that the 2017-2018 school year has not been a normal year after losing 15 days to Harvey in 2017.
