A Port Arthur Police officer charged with assault following a fight at a party in Liberty is on leave.

Port Arthur officer Ashton Tylor Moss, 24, of Hardin, is currently on administrative leave while the incident is investigated according to PAPD Deputy Chief Cory Cole

Moss was charged with assault in connection with a fight at a party in Liberty last Friday.

Moss' mother, Wendy Moss, told 12News that she believes he was trying to break up a fight and did not assault anyone.

"I will say this.... he saved someone's life.... the opposite of assault," she told 12News.

According to the Liberty Police Department Moss and Samantha Rene Taylor, 27, of Liberty, who was also charged with assault, attacked a 30-year-old woman at the party.

Moss and Taylor were arrested at their homes after the charges were filed Monday and were both released on a personal recognizance bond.
