Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force officers from the sheriff's office seized more than 125 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop Tuesday.
Gustavo Corpus, 23, of Weslaco, was arrested and charged with second degree felony possession of marijuana after deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's office working with the task force found three duffel bags containing 137 pounds of marijuana according to a release from the sheriff's office.
Task force officers stopped a truck driven by Corpus on IH-10 east at mile marker 839 for following too close and making an unsafe lane change the release said.
During the traffic stop deputies noticed a strong odor of air freshener, which is often used to mask the smell of drugs, coming from the truck according to the release.
After speaking to Corpus for several minutes deputies also discovered other "indicators of possible criminal activity" and asked for consent to search the truck the release said.
Corpus refused to give consent for a search so a K9 was brought in to perform an "open air sniff" of the truck and immediately alerted on the cargo area of the truck according to the release.
Officers then performed a "probable cause search" of the truck and found the marijuana.
Corpus remains in the Jefferson County Correctional on bonds totaling $10,400 according to jailers.
