Mardi Gras Southeast Texas changes Ball location

PORT ARTHUR - Tropical Strom Harvey will cause the Mardi Gras Ball this year to change locations.

Mardi Gras Southeast Texas has moved it from the Bob Bowers Civic Center because repairs have not yet even begun at the Port Arthur facility.

The Ball will be held at the Beaumont Civic Center and alcohol may not be brought in this year. Port Arthur's city secretary says the Bob Bowers Civic Center sustained nearly 2.4 million dollars worth of storm damage.

Several days of Mardi Gras events will begin with the Ball on February 3rd while more festivities and parades kick off on the 8th.

"It really doesn't matter where they have it as long as they are having it, said Rose Mikesh, a Woodville resident. As long as they have the carnival for the kids, I think everything will be fine."
