State District Judge Larry Gist of the Drug Impact Court of Jefferson County today accepted a jury verdict and sentenced Cody Sherrod Ford, 29, to ten (10) years in prison, announced Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham.

On September 21st, 2015, detectives from the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force conducted an undercover operation targeting a known drug dealer in Port Arthur. The undercover officer was able to meet with the defendant, who subsequently delivered a substance believed to be crack cocaine. The Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing just under one gram.

Ford was charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Because of prior convictions, Ford faced a second-degree felony punishment range of two to twenty years in prison. The 12 person jury deliberated less than an hour and returned a verdict of ten years.

Prosecutor Christopher Cadena said “I applaud the great work of these undercover officers. The jury’s verdict speaks volumes about the character of our community and how they feel about drug dealers. Simply put, justice was done.”
