BEAUMONT - Despite the colossal degree of recovery from Harvey and surging online shopping, local brick and mortar businesses say they are still busy this holiday season.

For the first time, Americans are expected to spend more money online than in stores this holiday season. Shoppers plan to spend 51% of their holiday shopping budget online, compared to 42% in stores. Still, many shoppers are still choosing to support their local businesses.

"Lately, it's been pretty busy, usually we can have a few moments of down time, but now we have had non-stop for the most part,” said Alia Harper, an employee at Down to Earth.

According to an annual national retail federation study, consumers have been spending more this year compared with last year nationwide.
