Thursday around 1 p.m., Jefferson County Deputies were dispatched in pursuit of a stolen Dodge Challenger Hellcat that was involved in a high-speed chase beginning in Houston.
The driver, 25-year-old Mohamed Ahmed Abu-Shlieba of Houston, was said to have a long gun, which he pointed at officers before he sped into Jefferson County.
Officers picked up the chase at IH-10 near Winnie and followed Abu-Shlieba as he continued east bound on Hwy 73.
The driver pulled onto the shoulder just past Country Club Road and jumped out of the car. Authorities believe the vehicle ran out of gas. He ran into an open field where police pursued him on foot. When he refused to stop, Abu-Shlieba was tackled to the ground by officers.
He was then taken by helicopter to Hwy 73 where he was turned over to Gulf Coast Violent Fugitive Taskforce.
Abu-Shlieba brought before Justice of the Peace Judge Chesson for Arraignment before he was returned to Houston.
At the time of the chase, Abu-Shlieba had two outstanding warrants in addition to his possession of the stolen vehicle.
