Home invasion leads to early morning homicide in Sabine Pass

Port Arthur police have released information in an early morning shooting that left one man dead. It happened at a home in the 75-hundred block of South 4th Avenue in Sabine Pass around 2:30, Friday morning.

Port Arthur police have released information in an early morning shooting that left one man dead. It happened at a home in the 75-hundred block of South 4th Avenue in Sabine Pass around 2:30, Friday morning.

The following is a press release from Port Arthur Police:

Port Arthur, Texas, January 26, 2018 - On the above date and time officers from the Port Arthur Police Department responded to a home invasion at 7530 S. 4th Ave in Sabine Pass. Upon arrival officers located a male white, Jonah Rivera, with injuries to his mouth and facial area. The victim was incoherent and unable to provide any useful information at the initial investigation. The victim was immediately transported to St. Elizabeth for medical treatment. Officers were able to gather limited information, and learned that several masked subjects arrived at the residence searching for a subject. Rivera confronted these subjects and an altercation ensued. Rivera sustained visible injuries to his facial area as the result. Officers responding to the location and observed a small passenger vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed leaving Sabine Pass. Officers pursued the vehicle into Port Arthur, and later found the vehicle abandoned in the 4500 block of 13th St. Officers had reason to believe this vehicle was involved in the incident that occurred in Sabine Pass.

Approximately three hours later, Port Arthur Police Department learned that Rivera passed away at the hospital from the injuries sustained during the incident. The Criminal Investigation Division began investigating the incident and later learned that Rivera was shot in the mouth.
