The life of a 22-year-old man cut short after a fire scorches through the living room of his home where he was sleeping.
The incident happened on the 35 hundred block of Grand Street near Magnolia Avenue.
It's a sad situation especially for the family of Juan Pablo Rico, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries.
Just hours after the blaze, holding back his tears and with ashes still in his hands, his roommate Ignacio Garcia remembers the life of his roommate Juan Pablo Rico.
"It makes me so sad because we were always together, just like brothers," Garcia says.
Juan Pablo is now being remembered as a hard worker who dedicated his life to helping his family.
"He loved to work over time. He would be happy to work long hours.
His hard work put to rest by the flames that left behind piles of burnt wood and ashes.
"May God have him in his holy glory, may he rest in peace," Garcia says.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The American Red Cross will be helping the Rico family during their loss.
