Beaumont firefighters battled a structure fire in a local bicycle shop south of downtown during frozen conditions.

“It does makes it harder,” said Scott Wheat, the Public Information Officer for the Beaumont Fire Department. "When you get some cold, you start to losing dexterity.”

Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 2300 block of Park Street.

Firefighting efforts at the bicycle shop, which was closed at the time of the fire, were hampered by wind.

"It's just cold right now and everyone is trying to stay warm,” said Alfred Wallace, a Beaumont resident.

Several nearby buildings also received some damage during the fire. The Beaumont Fire Department is still investigating the cause.
