Lena Creduer of Winnie is recovering in a Galveston hospital and is in fair condition after she was found at a Galveston county beach Wednesday night.

The community is also mourning the loss of her husband 86-year-old Claude Creduer who was found near his burned-out pickup on the beach about a mile east of the intersection of Highways 124 and 87.

81-year-old Lena Creduer was found to be conscious but disoriented.

Her friend Kim Hoffpauir said she first met the couple at work at the Market Basket on Winnie. She said the pair would come by and speak to her each time they saw her.

"You didn't see one without the other, they were always at the grocery store together at the post office together," said Hoffpauir. "She always just had a nice kind word to say to everybody."

Hoffpauir said Lena Creduer used to run a daycare out of her own home. She said she used to bring her daughter over to her house when she was a little girl.

“She was just as sweet with people her own age as the younger kids," said Hoffpauir.

Hoffpauir said she was worried when investigators told the public the pair went missing Tuesday especially since one suffers from Alzheimer’s and the other suffers from Dementia.

Investigators said they do not suspect foul play was involved in Claude Creduer’s death.

"Everyone was on the lookout for them so just to hear what happened was very tragic," said Hoffpauir.

The Creduer family is asking for privacy during their time of grief.
