A child who was in the back seat of an SUV in Beaumont when it was stolen has been found safe.

Beaumont Police Sgt. Cody Guedry told 12News that around 4 p.m. Friday, a three-year-old was in the back seat of an SUV in the 1500 block of Orange Street when the vehicle was stolen. When the suspect, or suspects, realized a child was in the SUV, the child was let out. The child was found around 4:20 p.m. in the middle of the road in the 600 block of Avenue C.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned at the intersection of Avenue C and Forsythe Street.

Police are using a K-9 to search for the suspect or suspects.

No other information has been released as of 4:25 p.m. Friday.
