HARDIN COUNTY — The Department of Public Safety has released the name of a Buna man who died in an accident in Hardin County Sunday evening. The deceased is identified as Colt Kirkendall, 23, of Buna.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. on US 96 about a mile north of Silsbee. DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis told 12News a 2011 Ford Mustang was going north in the inside traffic lane of US 96. A 2007 Toyota SUV was going south in the northbound traffic lane of US 96 and collided head-on with the Ford.
Sgt. Davis said Kirkendall, the driver of the Mustang, was pronounced dead at the scene. She said the driver of the Toyota, Jesse Collier III, 84, of Silsbee, was taken to Baptist hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries after being extricated from his vehicle.
No other information about the collision has been released as of 8:30 a.m. Monday.
