The Bayou Din Golf Club has been granted a reprieve and will remain open as a golf course after being bought by its current director.
Justin Pierson, the Director of Golf at Bayou Din, announced on Wednesday afternoon, that he has purchased the golf course from Aquila Golf and will be keeping it open as a golf course.
Pierson says he will be taking over management of the course November 28 and plans on scaling down to just 18 holes, preferring to keep the old course open and closing the links nine.
Pierson has been with Bayou Din for 23 years and has been director of operations for the last ten years, after serving as course superintendent.
Bayou Din Golf course closing after 57 years
The course just southwest of Beaumont had been set to close on November 27 after more than 50 years of play and become high end, high acreage ranch style home lots.
The original 18 holes were designed by Jimmy Witcher and opened in 1958.
The club house opened the following year.
In 1993 the club opened the Links Nine which was designed by Warren Howard.
