30-year-old man found at bottom of Port Neches apartment pool

Neighbors tells 12News that emergency personnel arrived around 9:15 a.m. Adabayo's body was taken to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, where he was later pronounced dead just before 10:45 a.m.

PORT NECHES, Texas — A 30-year-old man was found at the bottom of a pool inside a Port Neches apartment complex Sunday morning.

Alfred Adabayo's wife found his body at The Royal Neches Apartments, located in the 2300 block of Nall Street, Judge Brad Burnett told 12News. Both husband and wife lived at the apartments, he said.

Glenda Smith said she lives near the pool where Adabayo's body was found. She told 12News she was on her way to church when she heard a scream.

"It was kind of scary, I looked over at the swimming pool and she had the phone in her hand screaming 'Somebody help, somebody help me!'" Smith said. "About that time I started seeing the fire trucks and stuff coming in."

Smith said she saw the woman screaming for help around 9:15 a.m.

Other neighbors said emergency personnel began CPR on Adabayo before taking him to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

Judge Burnett said he was pronounced dead just before 10:45 a.m. He also said that Adabayo was fully clothed when officials pulled him from the water.

Judge Burnett has not confirmed this to be a drowning and says an autopsy was ordered because of "suspicious circumstances."

12News spoke to Adabayo's uncle off-camera and told us that he believes the two were swimming together, before she found him in the pool.

He said police haven't told them how Adabayo died.

Judge Burnett said he ordered an autopsy and turned over the case to Port Neches Police detectives.
