A teacher who has been with the Port Arthur Independent School District for 40 years will go on trial Tuesday on charges of injury to a child.

Ruby Gunner faces charges related to pushing, punching and choking an 11-year-old boy at Robert E. Lee Elementary in April of last year.

In an exclusive interview with 12News last May, Gunner said she was acting in self-defense after the boy attacked her twice; first pushing her, then kicking her in the stomach.

Jury selection begins 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens' courtroom.
