Fans will find changes at Beaumont ISD stadium; security guidelines strengthened due to 'fights' after Saturday's football game

Students that do not follow directions of the assistant principals and security at games will be escorted out, after an attempt to contact his or her parents.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont ISD plans to get stricter with security at sporting events after things got a little rough after the Beaumont United vs. West Brook football game Saturday.

Beaumont ISD Athletic Director Ron Jackson said they'll be strengthening safety procedures so things don't get "out of hand."

"A few incidents happened in the parking lot after the game. It involved a few students in a few areas," Jackson said.

He declined to say who was involved or how many students were part of the fights. Jackson did not comment on how badly anyone was hurt.

But he vowed - its being handled.

"I can assure you BISD Police is taking all steps, along with administrative staff and BISD, in making sure those individuals are held accountable," Jackson said.

Saturday's incidents paved the way for changes. All students will provide ID at the gate - and parents or guardians will stay with children who are not in high school at all times. (siblings do not suffice as guardians)

Beaumont ISD administrator Randall Maxwell hopes it will ensure safety - and encourage fans to continue showing up.

"We want to make sure our parents and our patrons help us by attending the games also with their younger students," Maxwell said.

Existing policies will also be given new priority. No loitering will take place in concession and staff will monitor areas around the stadium.

"We are just making sure that everyone that is in place knows exactly what's going on with everyone else so that we can maximize the event and make sure it is a safe event," Maxwell said.

Students will also be escorted out if they do not listen to directions from assistant principals or security.

"For the most part, people do what's expected at UIL contests and athletic events. So, I'm very proud of our parents and the students that attend the games here at Memorial Stadium, all athletic contests and BISD," Jackson said.

  3. No students will be allowed to loiter under the stands or near concession areas at any event.
  4. Assistant principals will be assigned throughout the facility during events. Students who do not follow the directives of the assistant principals will be escorted out of the game, after an attempt is made by staff to contact a parent/guardian.
