SUGAR LAND, Texas- A Sugar Land father is pleading for his son's life to be spared.

Thomas "Bart" Whitaker is scheduled to be executed next week for murdering his mother and brother back in 2003.

His father, Kent Whitaker, met with a member of the parole board in Austin on Tuesday in a last effort to try and stop the execution.

Bart was convicted of hiring someone to kill his family so he could collect a million dollar inheritance.

His father was also shot, but he survived. He says he has since forgiven his son claiming Bart is a changed man.

"We're not asking them to forgive him or to let him go. We just want them to let him live," said Kent.

Kent is also asking for Governor Greg Abbott to step in. The parole board isn't expected to make a decision until next Tuesday. The execution is set for Thursday, Feb. 22.
