Student removed from West Orange-Stark High School campus following threat Wednesday morning

The principal held the student after the report of the comments were made and police were contacted immediately.

A 14-year-old student at West Orange-Stark High school was removed Wednesday morning following a threat.

West Orange police said some kids were acting up in class when the teenage boy said he would shoot up the school.

“Those things are being taken seriously and we have to investigate every one that is made,” said West Orange Assistant Police Chief Jessie Romero.

The high school notified parents that a student had been removed after making a comment that was interpreted as a terroristic threat according to a post on the district's Facebook page.

The principal held the student after the report of the comments were made and police were contacted according to the post.

When police spoke to the student who made the threat and other witnesses, they determined it was not terroristic.

“No one that we interviewed took it to the level that they thought their personal safety was in danger,” said Romero.

The district sought to assure parents that all students are safe and classes are proceeding as normal according to the post.

Romero stated on Friday another teenage boy said he would shoot up the school but it was not considered terroristic after the police investigation. He said there were also rumors on social media on Monday that said that same student was coming back to school, but it was not true.

The school released this statement in reference to the rumors on Monday:

"As oftentimes occurs after a tragic school shooting, another school can experience unidentifiable threats from social media and other sources. We are currently addressing statements that have been brought to our attention. We are taking these statements seriously. The safety of our students is our highest priority."

Romero said in order for a threat to be considered imminent people have to be in immediate danger and the person has to have the means to do it.

He said the school did the right thing and wants to urge teachers, student and anyone to come forward if they see or hear anything suspicious.

Disciplinary action is now pending against the unnamed student according to the post.
