Police continue to investigate Monday shooting death of 57-year-old Beaumont woman

Police are looking for an African-American man in his 30s-40s, with short hair, wearing a blue plaid shirt, who was seen running south from the home where a Beaumont woman was fatally shot Monday.

Beaumont Police have identified the woman who was shot to death Monday in the city's first homicide of the year.

Lynda Barnes, 57, of Beaumont, died at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital Monday after being shot in the chest at a residence in the 1100 block of Church Street according to ta release from the Beaumont Police Department.

Police responded to the shooting just before 11:30 a.m. Monday and upon arrival found Beaumont firefighters and EMS medics working on Barnes.

A witness told detectives that after hearing shots they saw an African-American man in his 30s-40s, with short hair, wearing a blue plaid shirt, running south from the home the release said.

Detectives are following multiple leads, interviewing friends and acquaintances of Barnes and watching surveillance video from the are as they continue their investigation police said.
