The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating an accident involving a child on a dirt bike and a car. The accident that happened around 7 p.m. Sunday on FM 3063, north of Kountze, near Wildwood.

An emergency worker with Wildwood Fire and Rescue told 12News a driver in a Jaguar heading westbound on FM 3063 had a collision with a 6-year-old boy riding a dirt bike. The child was taken by a medical helicopter to UTMB in Galveston. The emergency worker said the child's father was on a separate dirt bike at the time of the accident and was not injured.

A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety issued the following statement late Monday afternoon:

At dusk yesterday, there was a crash on FM 3063 in Wildwood involving a passenger vehicle and a dirt bike.

According to the investigating Trooper, 31 year old Zachary Nafsus of Wildwood and his 6 year old son were riding dirt bikes westbound on FM 3063. The driver of a 2004 Jaguar was also traveling westbound on FM 3063 behind the dirt bikes. The driver of the Jaguar, 74 year old Peggy Barras of Wildwood, did not see the dirt bikes in the roadway and struck the bike driven by the 6 year old from the rear.

The child was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston with non life threatening injuries. The father, Zachary Nafsus, was cited for Operating an Unregistered Vehicle on a Public Roadway.
