12News has learned that the Beaumont Independent School District is eliminating its adult education program and laying off teachers from the program.
The district notified teachers by a certified letter that the layoffs would take place. The letter said the layoffs are the result of the district not receiving an annual grant necessary to operate the program.
The program will come to an end at the end of this school year.
The letter was sent out by BISD's Executive Director of Human Resources Sybil Comeaux.
A teacher that provided 12News with a copy of the letter said that the action likely affects between 15 to 20 teachers in the district.
