Former Bridge City HS baseball coach, Chuck Young dies at 76

A Southeast Texas baseball coaching legend with more than 40 years experience passed away Wednesday,

Vernon Ray Young, 76, know to most as "Chuck," coached for close to 40 years with almost 700 career wins.

Young led the Bridge City Cardinals to the state finals in 1992 and later moved on to Texas City, leading their program to the playoffs as well.

Young, who had 31 playoff teams and 15 district champion teams, was inducted into the Texas Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008.

The field at Bridge City High School is named after him.

Young's funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Texas City.
