Orange police officer indefinitely suspended

Posted: Updated:

A police officer involved in a fatal shooting has been placed on indefinite suspension.

A news release issued by the police department late Wednesday says, "…the internal review process relating to the use of deadly force by Captain Robert Arnold of the Orange Police Department on July 26, 2010 has been completed. After reviewing all of the information available to me I have elected to indefinitely suspend Captain Robert Arnold. He has a right to appeal this action."

Captain Arnold was "no-billed" by a grand jury reviewing the July 26 shooting of James Whitehead in the parking lot of the O'Reilly Auto Parts store in Orange.  Although it was determined that Arnold did nothing illegal, its decision did not determine if he operated within the guidelines of the Orange Police Department.
