Helicopter crashes near Silsbee; one man seriously hurt

DPS troopers are on the scene investigating a helicopter crash that has left one man seriously injured.

The crash happened Saturday around 1 p.m. off Firetower Road northwest of Silsbee.

According to DPS Sgt. Chuck Havard, Johnny Middlebrook, 60, of Alabama, was flying his single-engine helicopter when the engine failed.

It is still unknown why the engine failed.

Middlebrook was transferred toChristus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with serious injuries.
