Tropical depression #4 has formed in the Atlantic

Posted: Updated:

At 10 a.m., Tropical Depression 4 was located at 12.6 north, 41.1 west, or about 1,365 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and was moving west-northwest at 17 mph.

The National Hurricane Center expects the depression to continue on its path of west-northwest and increase in speed over the next few days.

This system is expected to become Tropical Storm Colin on Monday or Tuesday.

A few of the long-range models indicated that this system has the potential to enter the Gulf Of Mexico and track towards the Texas Shoreline of Texas in between Corpus Christi and Galveston over the next 5-7 days. Most, however, point toward a path near Bermuda in about a week from today. So far, this system is avoiding ingestion of the hot, dry, and dusty Saharan Air Layer, which has killed most such disturbances since May.

12 News Storm will continue to monitor TD 4's development over the course of the next few days.
