
Despite a troubled economy, a new report on crime statistics shows a decrease in violent crimes of almost 6 percent across the nation in 2009 compared to 2008.
Those figures are mirrored in the Beaumont area.
Violent crime like murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault decreased 5.5% nationwide Figures for Beaumont show a drop in murders of two, three less rapes, one less robbery, and 73 fewer aggravated assaults.
The number of property crimes in the United States in 2009 decreased 4.9% when compared with data from 2008.
The FBI also reports similar drops in violent crime all across the country.
