TYLER, Texas (AP) - Fires struck two rural churches near Tyler, just hours after investigators concluded that a seventh east Texas church fire this year was caused by arson.
The first fire struck about 9 p.m. Monday at the Dover Baptist Church, 15 miles northwest of Tyler, a Smith County sheriff's dispatcher said. The dispatcher said another hit another church about 3 miles away shortly thereafter, but he didn't have the identity of that church.
Multiple fire departments responded to both fires and were working late into the night to douse the flames. No injuries have been reported, and no causes have been determined.
The fires came the day investigators announced that a seventh east Texas church fire this year had been formally blamed on arson. Another 2010 church fire in the central Texas city of Temple also has been laid to arson.
